The
Program

Changing lives, one cup at a time.
Independent Grounds Coffee House enrolls students in a program that provides a structured training curriculum. This program works towards developing the vocational and social skills required for finding and keeping meaningful employment after high school.
Independent Grounds is a fully functioning coffee cart created specifically to be a work-study program for adolescents with developmental and other disabilities living in Charleston, SC.
Students have an opportunity to join us for work shift several days a week as a part of their high school vocational training. Work training programs are developed based on the needs of each student.

In the United States 1 in 68 children is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. As of 2016, only 17% of adult individuals with disabilities were gainfully employed. Independent Grounds Coffee House is hoping to improve those odds.
